Can it get any worse?

disclaimer: This is a venting post. Continue reading at your own risk!

Yup, so now we're all sick. Keith is starting to sniffle and Bria's got it full on already. I still can't talk, and Rowan has still got a runny nose. AHHHHHHH!!!!!

How on earth am I supposed to get better when I cannot rest? Last night Bria was awake at least every 2 hours, worse than a newborn. And during the day, she's nursing every 2 hours or so too. I know she needs it to get better, but I'm just so worn out, I don't think I'm going to keep up with this for much longer.

Bria is having trouble sleeping because she can't breathe, which also means she cannot suck her soother, which is how she usually falls asleep! Any suggestions on how to clear her up a bit?

My throat is so sore, I wince every time I swallow. I've been drinking lots of water and tea, but I feel like I'm just going to float away!

Please tell me this is all going to pass soon!

That could be your dad in the picture! I think I'll tie a garbage bag around his waist

The only remedies I know...
For Bria-Saline nose spray, although I will warn you, ALL kids hate it.
For you-have you tried gargling with warm salt water or mouthwash? When I have a sore throat I do that a few times a day and it makes it bearable. I'll pray that you can get some rest. Being sick really sucks. But being sick and having to keep going and care for the rest of your family is almost unbearable. Take care!

Awww...that sounds awful!! It's bad enough being a sick mommy when you're kids are healthy...but when everyone's sick...that's HARD. There is actually something called "Eucalyptus oil" that is really good for clearing up plugged noses! When Tate had a cold I'd just put a drop or two of the oil on a kleenex and then put it in his crib beside him...and then put a few more drops on before I went to bed, or when he woke up at night...it seemed to help some at least! And I know that it actually does clear up my nose when I smell it. It's a stronger smell, but it's not stinky or anything...and it's an oil, so it's natural. Here I am able to get it in a really little container at the local health food store, and it's only about $3 so it's nice and cheap...and it lasts a while since you only use a few drops at a time! Good luck...I'll keep you guys in my prayers!

I use the little "bugger stucker out thingie" that they give you at the hospital when they're born. USually it will clear enough so they can get a couple of sucks out of the paci, soother or help when nursing. And then I heard from someone to rub Vicks Vapor Rub on their feet and then put socks on...I guess so it's not too strong for a little one, but it's supposed to have some of the same effects.

You sound like you need rest, but I've always been told to get TONS of liquids when you have a cold and so that is why your little one wants to nurse extra:) It's draining (literally) on mom, but it's good for baby...aren't they the smartest little things:)

Caden just got over this cold thing too. Mix salt in warm water. Put it in a dropper and just slowly drop a few drops in her nose. She probably won't even notice, as long as you do only a couple drops at a time. Also, I had a humidifier running non stop in his room. Helped him stay un stuffed. Warning about the vicks vapo rub. Not sure how true it is but my Dad told me he heard on the news that kids under 2 should not use vapo rub because it can interfer with the development of their kidneys. For you, try drinking lemon water and orange juice. Hope you guys feel better soon!

Just be careful if your sore throat gets where it is severely painful to do something as simple as drink water, get a mononucleosis test. Hope you guys all feel better soon.

So, you are dealing with the same problem our family had the last 4 weeks. I guess you have now enough good ideas. Hope the Friesen's will be better soon. Keep you in prayer.

That picture totally says it how it is! The last time I was sick I would've totally worn something like that!! Somebody told me the other day that oregeno leaf oil clears up a stuffy head instantly! I have yet to try it, but if you're into the homeopathic way of curing the common cold, it may be worth the try next time.
